During the year 1978, five musicians got together and formed the band “Public Enemy”.
They were Jack Maxwell on drums, Paul Acurso on bass, Wayne Skau vocal, Mark Durante guitars, and Nick Matt also on guitar. The band played clubs in the Chicago area with few days off for the next few years and built up a strong following. When the laws were passed to raise the drinking age, it severely cut into everyone’s lively hood from bar owners to musicians and crew. The band needed financial backing to record and perform live. A few stabs at that produced few recordings that still exist. This newly released package of eleven tracks show the band live mostly off “board” tapes, and the studio tracks vary quite a bit and show the group trying to salvage the whole project. Mark Durante sings lead vocal on “Dime a Dozen” and Jeff Lesher, (later of “the Next Big Thing” and “Green”) sings a few numbers. So this is the story in a nutshell.
